Sponsored by California Retired Teachers Association Div 35 Dewey Finn (Jack Black) is an energetic guitarist who gets kicked out of his bar band and needs a job fast. He pretends to be a substitute music teacher at a top private elementary school, where he introduces his students to the rock legends he loves. This surprises the strict principal (Joan Cusack). As Dewey helps his talented students discover their passion for rock music, he hopes to find redemption by entering them in a local Battle of the Bands.
