SUMMARY:Window to the Universe
DESCRIPTION:A NEW LOOK AT JUPITER \n\n\n\nWhat we thought we knew and what we hope to learn from NASA's Juno mission arriving this July Dr. David Velasquez\n\nSaturday May 28\, 2016\n\nTaylor Observatory Oak Hills Lane\, Kelseyville 7:15 pm\n\n\n\nPLANETARIUM SHOW 8:00 PM\n\nLECTURE: "A New Look at Jupiter" 9:00 PM\n\nPLANETARIUM SHOW 9:00 -10:30 PM\n\nTELESCOPE VIEWING (weather permitting)\n\n\n\nJupiter has always held a prominent place in the solar system\, from ancient times to the present. Beginning with Galileo's early telescopic observations of Jupiter's moons\, the planet has gradually revealed its secrets. In the past few years\, with the Kepler telescope's discovery of numerous exoplanets and planetary systems orbiting distant stars\, our former theories of the formation of our solar system are being questioned. With the scheduled arrival of NASA's Juno probe in July\, and its year-long investigation of the detailed structure of the planet\, NASA scientists hope to gain a better understanding not only of the dynamics of the planet\, but also of how Jupiter has influenced the current configuration of the solar system.\n\n\n\nSponsored by the Friends of Taylor\, the event includes the presentation\, a planetarium show\, and telescope viewing\, weather permitting. Admission: $5.00 adults\, Lake County K-12 students admitted free.\n\n\n\nFor more information www.taylorobservatory.org or www.friendsoftaylor.org. Questions 415 209-3084 (Bill Haddon\, President\, Friends of Taylor)
